Design and Construction of Noise Barriers - South Bank to Salisbury
Project Value: $4.2 Million
Over 20 different noise barriers were constructed for Queensland Rail to limit the noise from trains on nearby residents. One of the biggest problems on this project was accessing the various sites which were located on railway property and often with limited space between the walls and the train track which restricted the type of plant and machinery which could be used. Generally the works were completed with live tracks but when works were particularly close to live electrical plant then the works were performed with the electrical works shut down. There were two types of walls- timber and concrete panels. Both were supported by galvanized columns which were required to be accurately located or other wise would result in problems with erection. The walls varied in length from approximately 50 m to over 400 m with a maximum height of 6 m.
