Wallsend Creek Realignment - Newcastle City Council

Project Value: $700,000

This project consists of widening the approaches of the bridge entries from the tidal water flow and stabilizing the embankment of the creek.

QMC also built footings and shotcrete the slope embankment from under the bridge. Sandstone retaining walls were constructed on the approaches to protect the banks from tidal flow. Anchors and grouting were completed to keep the whole job in place.

All these works had to be completed in a dry creek bed. Therefore QMC designed its own method to stop the water flow in slight rain fall. In heavy rain fall the site needed to be managed so the works weren’t compromised and the plant and personal were safe.

Although time was critical and the project had to be finished as soon as possible, QMC were at the mercy of  heavy rainfall. The project was completed within time period allowed even with a substantial rain fall.
